Clutching at straws

The clutch on my car feels a bit iffy, and if I plant the throttle at 3500rpm or so it slips for a fraction of a second before accelerating like normal. It never continues to slip like they usually do when they’re worn out, but concerned there might be something amiss somewhere. Is there room to wig...

Re: Column Switches

I took mine off and pulled a strip of fine wet and dry between the contacts a few times to clean them up a bit.

Depends if it’s worn / dirty contacts or a more mechanical issue.

I didn’t dare take them apart, too many little springs and levers for my liking.

This months classic and sportscar magazine

I expect you probably all know about it, but there’s a nice article featuring a couple of Tis and a sprint. Are the members on here?

Great to see something about them in print

Re: Stripped thread repair

Ive heard of them but never seen one in action. I’ve got a pulled alternator bracket thread in an alloy block and looks like they would be a perfect fix for it. I used a similar looking solid insert to repair a dead sparkplug thread once. The special tap used what was left of the original thread to ...

Re: All weather Car covers

I use one of the all weather ones from classic additions. They’re expensive but I’ve had one on a car for a couple of years and it’s still surviving despite the cat regularly climbing on it which has shredded many other covers over the years. They’re a stretchy material and have three straps so don’...

Really hoping some events go ahead this year. Would be nice to get mine out and about, although far from show worthy, and would be great to see some others. Mine is the only one I’ve seen in the last 10 years or so

Re: Too many projects... again!

The 155 just had to get one of my votes, the 94 btcc car is one of my all time favourite race cars.

The other choice was tougher but went to the sud because it seemed most appropriate for this forum. In reality if they were mine I think I’d chose the 155 and Giulia for a bit of fwd / rwd contrast.

Re: My Dads new old 156

My dad had 3 156s, I think they were ( and still are ) great looking cars which drove very well. Loved the quick steering on them and the low slung seating position and driver focused dash layout. My favourite was his first, an early 1.8 in dark blue with the sports pack and 16in teledials. Then had...

Re: If anyone on here buys it..

Was watching as thought it might be a useful parts car if it was too far gone to save.

Thankfully it went for much more than I would have been willing to pay which means I don’t have to contend with the other half, space issues and the logistics of picking up a non running car 200 miles away!

Yeah, parked on a bit of scrub and forgotten about rather than a barn find :D

I wonder if something like this could be adapted to fit? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153043676285 Even if you could get one stud through to hold it in place and mark and drill the mount for the rest. Personally I’d rather drill / modify the mount than the car body. Might have to have a measure up bec...

Thanks, I was reasonably happy that the things I’d checked and done showed everything was working fine, and it hadn’t actually caused any issues, it’s just that niggle there and not knowing whether I’d missed something or it’s nothing to worry about. I’m happy to ignore it unless it comes on as brig...

The ‘barn find’ sud on eBay that is, would you sell me the head rests please

Actually looks surprisingly solid given their reputation for dissolving and how long it looks like it’s sat in less than ideal storage conditions.

Since buying my sud I’ve been chasing a problem which I’m not actually sure is a problem, or just a quirk. The car hasn’t ever failed to turn over, hasn’t conked out when running, hasn’t actually broken down. I have noticed that when driving at night with the lights on, interior fan on and wipers on...

I know how tricky some bits can be to find, but hoping someone might have a few bits lurking around that they’d be willing to part with. Would like to know this too, as I’m new to them I don’t know whether it’s what they all do or if it’s something wrong. I’m still annoyed at myself for not buying a 155 silverstone when they were cheap and were a few around. I know they were pretty much a base model with black bumpers, and the wide bodies drove better, BUT it was a homologation special for the btcc cars at the time I was really getting into cars and ...

Being a child of the 80s I was too young to buy a prerecorded cassette, I used to listen to some of my dads and by the time I was old enough to get into music of my own we had cds and a CD player. Still used to make my own tapes for the car as cassette players were still more common than in car CD p...

It has been a very strange year. Yes, still got the tool kit and the wooden screwdriver handle is so clean it doesn’t look like it’s ever been used in anger.

I am missing the handle for the jack though, not managed to fine one yet.

A couple of other bits and pieces I’ve done. As said earlier, I really wanted a radio for the more boring bits of the commute, the car hadn’t ever had one so I was toying with the idea of a completely hidden setup. However none of the existing openings were big enough to be able to fit a stereo behi...
