Re: Tappet Shim Removal Tool
Just a quick update on this thread. I bought a Fiat tappet tool from Eurospares (they supply parts for X1/9s), and predictably the tool could not be used in its original form, the handle is too long and at the wrong angle to clear the carbs and the sides of the engine bay.. Fortunately the Eurospar...

Mercedes reliability  https://youtu.be/bcF1CFKKuyI?si=2Z9COpsYqd2Z7OIg I watch this guys videos a lot, he's really an exceptional engine buider and mechanic, has a straightforward attitude with customers and staff. He also seems to have a dislike for the modern idiotic way of doing things, lik...

Re: How reliable are Alfas (Stellantis) new generation of engines
My own thoughts are in a similar vien to Tims' in that I have a Giulietta daily and have hadno dealings with the Giuila cars, either personlly or through work. So no real help there then! Must admit I like the Giulietta enough to consider a last of line one may be a replacement when the time comes t...

That does look nice, and I agree fully wth John it's too good for a freebie...looks like it still has a safety devices cage in too? I'm sure John would ad it to his collection of track cars

Rob also took his 182 which is a bit more track focused, he seemed to be having a good day too!
Spent most of the day cocking the rear wheel especially when he got his first taste of slicks with the extra grip they give.

Clio performed admirably, handling is spot on, brakes were great, decent amount of power so we didn't get in too many peoples way, even put a lap on a few cars 8-) In the afternoon we put the Nankang semi slicks on in an efort to finally take Coppice flat out which I've never had the car, or courage...

Fantastic bit of nostalgia there Tim, hadn't heard of the Press on Regardless rally for years, USA is pretty much off the radar nowadays for the WRC, unless you count Mexico of course!
I'll have a good read through them all later, thanks for the posts

Re: Race Retro 2024
That's a real shame, often once an event suffers a cancellation they sometimes fail to reappear again, hoping the weather is the issue and it's just a one off and will return. We have been on 2 or 3 occasions and it was a good event, nice variety and the rally stage demonstrations a good addition. I...

Been out for a little ride around the local area this afternoon, it's like a grown up 145! Drives great, decent amount of go but the gearbox and brakes for me are the highlight, aside from the pin sharp handling. Local big draw a handful of miles from my door is the East Kirkby Aviation Centre, home...

Another new arrival...a track day or two planned then we'll see. Like the look of the 197 with the flared rear arches and front wing vents, has the look of a race car for the road! Actually drives very nice, not harsh at all despite the lowered suspension, has a 6 speed gearbox and brembo 4 pot brak...

I usually post some moaning doom and gloom, this or that that's bugging me or whatever. This week though I am happy to report that I became a grandparent for the first time, our Rob who a few of you have met before has made me very proud again, him and Shannon had a baby girl on the 28th. I think we are indeed now miserable old sods  No belt on but I was parked up :D These electric cars are mostly a PITA to test. It has a toggle for reverse, drive or neutral and you press a button for park. Trouble is as soon as you switch it off it goes into park so you can't rotate the wheels,...

IMG20231220143421.jpg Welcome to your future  This is from a Nissan Leaf I had in for Most today. 2016 model so 6 years newer than my Giulietta. Look at the details. 71k on the clock. Full electric obviously, and on full charge you get 80 miles before a 2.5 hour recharge is needed. Not very us...

Giulietta reached a milestone this weekend, not an unknown number nowadays as cars last longer especially diesels but I am happy to be doing my bit for the environment, by NOT expending energy and resources on building new and vastly heavier cars and using ones that already exist, that's my excuse a...

Went for a quick look on an old fourm a lot of us used to go on, some still do I'm sure, but jeez louise. Talk about hard work! Bombarded with ads, very fussy layout, I know I'm biased but this place is SO much better as far as I'm concerned. Only went to see if there's and 156 V6s for sale, still q...

Hi James. Sometimes you have to hold out and a buyer turns up. The economy won’t be helping. Plus personally some things are just over priced so it’s hard to compare. The other aspect is you have a bit of a hybrid car, it isn’t a fully fledged road car and nor is it race ready. Leaves you in the mi...

Yep, I can also vouch for Nathan and Cloverparts. Used them before a few times, always helpful.
Used to be near Gainsborough but recently moved to near Lincoln.
They also repair and sell cars as well as break them for parts so worth keeping an eye on.

Re: Non return valve
The trouble is nowadays it's hard to work out what is a quality part and what is trash, eBay is a minefield and just picking a more expensive part isn't always the answer as some companies just charge more for inferior parts. An elecrtic pump is a good solution, best with carbs having a return line ...

We set up this forum due to the Ads on the Alfa Owner forum where we left because of other issues with a lack of freedom and other problems. They now require a $50 per year subscription to be Ad free, we didn't want that. As for the question of how much it costs for Shrew and myself to fund the foru...

Well if you want an XM I know he has one for sale, if not more. He's as mad for the French cars as we are for Italians! I mentioned to him that the hydraulic lines for the suspension gave me enough grief when the cars were current on the used car lot with high pressure lines rusting out and they bei...
