Re: Cambelt change (engine in)
Only 7K miles since water pump changed (but 15 years ago) and only 3K miles since I last changed the cambelts (but 9 years ago). However, I need to change the leaking cambelt seals (gradually getting worse), so I thought as I’ve got to take that all off, I’d change the belts at the same time. I get ...

Re: Cambelt change (engine in)
Thanks Louise, really appreciated. Good point, it’s the hydraulic tappet version of the engine, so sounds like the rad, fan, alternator and hoses to come off. I changed the water pump some 15 years ago, so probably better change that at the same time.

Cambelt change (engine in)
Hi everyone, I’m about to do a cambelt change on my 1.7 Sprint with the engine in-situ. I’ve previously done it when I’ve had the engine out, so this situation is a new one for me. Any tips on how best to approach it? i,e do I need to remove the front grill and radiator for better access, or remove ...

Re: Twin carbs
I'm having similar problem to you. How ever I try to set the carbs I'm getting a stumble when at low revs. it goes away at 2800 revs so it's on the idle circuit. It will idle lovely. The problem only shows up when driving. The engine is a 1.7 on 40 dellorto's. It's running 52 idles at the moment. I...

Re: Idle screw O ring
Haynes manual for Weber carbs shows one o ring only and it looks to be below the spring as the Dellorto DRLA has it. But agree, check with Eurocarb guys.

Oil pressure sender unit thread
Evening all, Anyone know what the thread on the oil pressure sender unit is? The big one which screws into the centre of the top of the block and feeds the oil pressure gauge on the instrument cluster. Looking to get a capillary pressure gauge to check the actual running pressure but want to make su...

Re: Wipers won’t stop
Well…. No sooner had I wrestled the scuttle tray out and got to the electrical connector…. Readings were ok. So I tested it and the wipers worked perfectly…. Hmmmm, before I put it all back together, I’ll leave it overnight and check it again tomorrow. Although Alfa electrics are very frustrating, I...

Re: Wipers won’t stop
Cheers Kev. I had the motor rebuilt about 4 years ago so I’m hoping it isn’t that end of things but then again, I guess it doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. Will follow your tests and let you know where I come out.
Cheers again mate.

Wipers won’t stop
Hi guys, was on my way back from a show today in my 88 Sprint. It started raining and now the wipers won’t stop
According to the Haynes manual is the the “auto stop device” is faulty. Any idea where that is?
Cheers all,
Ed

Re: WEBER IDF 40 question
Hi, not an expert on IDFs (more DRLA fir me) but principle should be the same. If cruising, then likely you are past the progression holes point (which smoothly manages change from idle jets to mains) - but worth checking those holes are clear. After that, I’d suggest checking the main jets - are th...

Re: Cambelt replcement
That reminds me, I need to do the cam belt on my 8v hydraulic engined Sprint. Completely remember one of the cams moving back round a bit when you remove the cam belt (one of the valves wanting to close under its spring pressure I think) and then you pull it back round with a c spanner. However, as ...

Re: Tracking done
Looks great mate! Same year as mine.
Incidentally, can I ask what tyres you have on the 15” wheels. I need to think about some new rubber (I think the current ones are 2006 tyres…oops). Just looking for good road tyres for 7x15 “, not track or anything special.
Cheers,
Ed

Plus VAT.....double gulp. I had mine completely rebuilt by Dave at Rusper’s about 5 years back and it was £750 all in.....but it’s been absolutely top since. That also included at least 3 synchros and one main bearing....so looks like your price quote is about right. Comes down to the fact.....take ...

Re: Another Sprint owning new member
Pretty sure the Haynes manual gives guidelines of min. 149 psi & max variation of 15 psi from lowest to highest. Looks like you might be right on the variation limit but i’d probably leave it and just keep and a close eye on it, especially if it seems to be running well.
