Just checked the rack and its a standard ratio with around 3.2 turns lock to lock.

That explains why I have a weak caliper, Thanks alfa dave, looking in to getting a manual although I don't think they did a 33 version.

After reading up again on setting the hand brake cables and re-adjusting they all work and better than before!, I think when I put new cables in I hadn't set the handbrake up 2 clicks and pumped the brake pedal a few times then adjusted the cable tension and hey presto it's working just fine.
