Re: Alternative handbrake for Sud
Did they come with disc rear end? I'd heard that there was a European model that had disc rear, but unlikely to find it in Australia and I think quite different arrangement for the rear suspension arms.

Alternative handbrake for Sud
Hi folks, I've never loved the front inboard calipers on the Sud. The race car for years has had outboard fronts, and therefore no handbrake at all. For our four-door I'd like to retain the front inboard calipers but find some solution to have a decent rear handbrake. Has anyone ever tackled this pr...

Ha! My 'new' 1974 sedan still has those items fitted, I'd never seen them before. Certainly worth a few more points for originality!

Re: 16v Carb Trumpets (Air horns)
I also note that the original Trofeo Suds (the Autodelta kit) had curved trumpets on 44 IDF webers.
I definitely take on board what you're saying about the BLS setup though Shrew. Interested in other experiences as well if anyone can share? (or is willing!)- Mon Oct 06, 2014 12:09 pm

Re: 16v Carb Trumpets (Air horns)
The trumpets we're currently running are shown in this pic - I haven't measured them (car isn't with me tonight) but they are fairly short. Longer trumpets should improve torque lower in the rev range, something like 17 inches (430mm) of trumpet length would get the pulse improvement down to 7000rpm...

16v Carb Trumpets (Air horns)
Hi folks, I have an odd query - I've been interesting in what kind of trumpet (ram pipe) to fit on our carburettored 16v. There is a calculator here: Optimum Intake Runner Predictor Program that given an intake length will tell me which RPM ranges the harmonic benefits are. I think to make use of it...

Re: Another Series 1 Ti from OZ
I'm hoping we see some more appearing at our display days here in Australia, as early Suds are sorely under-represented! You folk in the UK are doing some fantastic restorations of early s1 Sud Tis which is brilliant - hardly anyone would do that here, they're much more interested in 105 coupes and ...

Re: Another Series 1 Ti from OZ
Sad to see it leaving Oz :-/
But I definitely didn't have the folding stuff to keep it here. That price certainly woke up a few people over here! You couldn't give a Sud away a few years back, regardless of condition.
Well done - glad it's gone to a good home!

Re: Long Term Ownership.
When I met my wife in 1997, she had parked her Sud next to mine outside a party and came in searching for the other Sud owner. She'd had the car for at least a couple of years at that stage, so we're getting close to 20 years. Here's a pic in 1997 when Fi took me (new boyfriend) along to a club day ...

Re: The 'Madame' Sud
Here we are at Wakefield Park last weekend. This is an all-Alfa category, and we managed a new record of 38 Alfas on the starting grid for the first race. My first time at this circuit and I qualified 26th/38 but struggled in the races to get off the line and use the superior handling of the Sud to ...

Re: The 'Madame' Sud
I should bring this up to date... The old 1.5 8v engine was quite sick after a sprint day in March, so we started to build the 16v in earnest. It came together last month, just in time to run in our all-Alfa challenge at Wakefield Park in NSW. Specs: 1.7 block with a 1.5 cranks (makes 1.6, to keep m...

A couple of shots of the interior as-is. The original dash has been swapped for a really nice restored Ti dash. What's the chance of finding an original RHD black sedan dash?

Re: Picked up another Sud - this time a sedan
Now to get the car running well and pass the roadworthy check required here. The previous owner had the car for 35-odd years and was a bit of a handyman and tinkerer. The car is in remarkably excellent clean condition. It was only taken off the road in 2012. The engine bay was re-sprayed in the past...

Re: Picked up another Sud - this time a sedan
I forgot to post the 'before shots' - the roof had been badly repaired many years ago and the paint was lifted leaving bare metal underneath and allowing surface rust to take hold. This has all been stripped and treated with deoxidene before being re-painted. The door and boot had taken a tap each, ...

Re: Picked up another Sud - this time a sedan
Yesterday we got the car back from the painter, having repaired one front guard (wing), one door, the boot, and the peeling and surface rusted roof. It's no concours job but it looks tidy and neatly preserved as this will be a very regularly driven car.

Re: How do I make my Sud doors shut easily?
The latching of the lock. The door requires a good slam to fully latch, otherwise it'll bounce back to the first 'click' of the catch. On the race car, it is clearly alignment of the latch as the doors have sagged. On the new sedan, it's not so clear as the doors appear very straight. I agree don't ...

How do I make my Sud doors shut easily?
Hi folks,
All (!) of my Suds require a fair whack to get the doors to shut. Any tips on how to get them to shut more easily?
Looking for things like door alignment, rubbers, latches etc. I'm going to have a proper look myself, but any pointers would be great.
thanks,
Evan.

Alfasud wheel centre bore / spigot size?
Hi folks,
Can anyone advise the wheel spigot diameter for the Sud? I assume it's the same as the 33.
58.something..?
thanks,
Evan.

Re: Picked up another Sud - this time a sedan
The colour is not original - it was originally biancospino (white), resprayed I think in the 80s. It's a nice period metallic brown - not sure if it's the same metallic brown that came out on the later sedans or not. The engine bay interior is all sprayed in a sickly pale green, apparently the owner...

Picked up another Sud - this time a sedan
Oops - another Sud followed me home. This time it's a 1974 sedan, dragged out of a shed in the country. All the sills, arches, and windscreen pillars are all sound and rust-free. One door is rubbish, and the worst is a bad respray on the roof is all peeled and surface rusted underneath. The interior...

Re: A new "barn-find"!
Had to detach the bonnet to get it open (no latch cable) so a bit more pressure sprayer and the engine bay is looking pretty good. It's had a repair around the battery, but it all looks solid. Possibly some suspicious patches under the paint on the sides of the tub, but nothing we can't handle. IMG_...

Re: A new "barn-find"!
Here's what the Sud looked like after a lot of washing - happily it didn't dissolve! It looks pretty good in these photos, but the paint is very dry and dull and seemingly impregnated with 20 years of red dust from inland Australia.

Re: A new "barn-find"!
Aha - I found the whole stainless window surround (painted over in matt black!) under a bunch of junk in the boot. So it's possible I could use the original bonded screen. Pros and cons? Probably should keep it original.
