Re: Tappet Shim Removal Tool

Thanks Kev, that is good to know.

Sorry, I said Eurospares, I got the tool from Eurosport. Not sure I can afford anything at Eurospares

Re: Tappet Shim Removal Tool

Just a quick update on this thread. I bought a Fiat tappet tool from Eurospares (they supply parts for X1/9s), and predictably the tool could not be used in its original form, the handle is too long and at the wrong angle to clear the carbs and the sides of the engine bay.. Fortunately the Eurospare...

Re: Tappet Shim Removal Tool

OK, thanks Lou. Hmm. I wonder if the Alfa tool is designed to depress both the inlet and exhaust buckets at the same time? In which case, the shoulders bear on the bucket edge and the centre ridge locates in the gap between the two. If that is the case, I will have to use the Fiat tool to depress on...

I’ve got that one . I’ve also got this one which I seem to remember being the correct one. I can’t just put my hand on the other one so I’ll have to dig it out IMG_2075.jpeg Thanks Lou - that looks like the one in the Alfa 33 manual, with the hex head for putting a socket and tommy bar on to. It se...

Tappet Shim Removal Tool

Hi guys - after a few miles my new ex-Bianco Class F engine sounds a bit tappety :( I'm sure this isn't a racing thing, and I am hoping that maybe the engine builder may just have accidentally swapped the inlet and exhaust shims by mistake. Whatever the reason, I need to depress the tappet buckets t...

Hi Tony. From my rapidly fading memory the most often fitted to UK market cars were indeed Bosch. I’ve got a pair of Cibie Airport to put on mine.
Cibie Airports are great looking lamps. They don't appear to be listed any more, sadly :(

Very nice - after all this time it is a special feeling to finally get behind the wheel, well done 8-)

You can see why these cars were dubbed the "British Porsche" when the 356 was current. Probably goes better than the German car too, especially around corners!

I had AVO refurbish my rear dampers earlier in the year. I currently have AVO coilover dampers fitted all round on the Nova. I originally had non-rebuildable SPAX dampers and couldn't replace them because SPAX had gone out of business. Now SPAX are back in business and AVO have folded, talk about ba...

Re: The sad End of an Era

I can't help but agree. While brand loyalty is to be commended I cannot think of anything further removed from the original Alfa ethos of driver-focused motoring than an EV bristling with so-called "driver aids" or even full autonomy. Presumably only the vehicle AI will derive any driver satisfactio...

Vredesteins would be my choice for a classic, unless you want to consider the very expensive period tyres from the likes of Longstone. Not Chinese, but made in India these days I believe... I have always found the wet weather performance of Vreds to be very good, handy if you use your car all year r...

Yes, the very one - Northrop M2-F3, as it is now. The crash was in M2-F2 form, without the central vertical fin. Excessive roll couple. Maybe clutch slave with non standard union? Correct - the clutch slave hose goes to a union on the chassis and is hard line from there to the master cylinder. There is also a coolant hose just to the right which normally attaches to the water pump elbow. I dressed it back to get better access. The ...

Re: Balancing 36 idf with manometer

Hi Faffm - I guess with a manometer you will be hooking up to the vacuum take-offs at the base of the inlet manifolds? If so, the first order of business is to set all of the idle mixture screws to the same number of turns out from fully home. From memory this should be 2.5 turns or thereabouts. Dis...

Hi Fruity - I am not an authority on EFI systems, but it doesn't sound like an ECU problem to me. The fact that you are getting spark, and fuel, confirms it I think. Your comment about swapping the injector leads with no apparent effect bothered me too, but the fact that you have unburned fuel in th...
