Thanks for that. The fixing points on the air box have broken on my car and now I know how it should look.

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Quite incredible what skilled restorers can do in a fully equipped workshop. Its better than when it left the showroom. Love the colour as well. A friend of my father bought a new 5M in that colour, his second Sud after one of the first four speed cars, and I have a photo of it somewhere, when it wa...

Re: 2.0TS Head skim problem

Yes I did read that post with interest and now appreciate the piston rings are the primary cause of high oil consumption. I should have said I am hoping new oil seals will reduce the oil consumption. Composite gaskets were fitted to the earlier 16v engines, so I am wondering if fitting one to my lat...

2.0TS Head skim problem

I have taken the head off my 147's 2.0 TS engine to replace the rather hardened valve stem oil seals, which will hopefully reduce the chronic oil consumption. I have had it skimmed as there was some minor corrosion, due I presume to the use of a multi layer steal head gasket. Having had the head ski...

Re: Valve stem oil seals

There's another guy on uTube who does it on an MX5 by stuffing nylon rope in through the spark plug hole and then bringing the piston up a little to compress it. That should prevent the valve from dropping into the cylinder. I suppose you have nothing to loose if you were planning to take the cylind...

Hall sensors

As I had to change my seized alternator I took the opportunity to replace the cam shaft position sensor. I was getting the engine management issue light coming on ever more frequently and the fault code was for a faulty cam sensor. The original Bosch one is much more expensive than most of the alter...

Re: 147 TS alternator removal

OK, well I will do that when I put it back on. I have a cam shaft sensor error code at the moment and as the exhaust cam pulley has to come off to change the sensor, I may as well do the belts, pulleys and water pump as well.
This is going to cost me more than I paid for the car!

Well it came off eventually. What a crap job, I think I will raise the Titanic next weekend as that will be easier. Heres a photo of the angle you need to get the plenum at for it to be pulled out. Note the damage to the plastic fins as thats how tight the gap is if you don't loosen the lower engine...

After giving my 147 2.0TS a two month rest the alternator has seized! Whats the best way to remove it from its hiding place without removing the engine ? Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't think the car feels right with poly bushes either. Also, as the poly bush itself doesn't twist, the securing bolts tend to work loose.

Re: Sorry to wake everyone up but….

I think the Haynes or Autobooks manuals for the Alfetta will be good enough as the suspension is the same. I am sure someone on here can confirm if there are any minor differences. I have been using these manuals when working on my 75TS suspension and they crop up on ebay from time to time.

Re: Windscreen Removal

I have had the car since 2002 when I offered it as an MOT failure for £250. I couldn't let it get crushed and so stored it in my mothers garage thinking I would soon patch it up and run it for a few years. It was only on the road for thirteen years and its been garaged now for twenty. So its not to ...

Windscreen Removal

This hot weather does have its uses. I have had a few goes at trying to remove the windscreen on my Sprint Veloce over the last year but been frightened to use to much force. It occurred to me that the rubber seal would be more pliable in the heat and for once I was right. I was able to push the sea...

I bought a set from Sudshop who have had some made to the original spec. I have not fitted them yet as I have been busy rebuilding what must be the worlds rustiest MX5 NB. And people say Alfas rust!
I will try and post a link that works.

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

I thought there was a supplier of new metal wings, but that was clearly an extreme case of wishful thinking.
I will go for fibreglass and hope they are a good fit. After all they bolt on and won't rust.

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Are those new front wings and if so, where did you get them from? I was planning to get fibreglass ones for my 'get it finished one day' Sprint Veloce' restoration as new steel wings appear to be unobtainable.
Brilliant workmanship. Keep the photos coming.

Re: Alfa 147 to scrap or not

Pleased to learn that I am not the only 147 owner here. My 2.0TS passed the MOT without any advisories a few months ago and the next day it started giving me false a brake light failure warning every time I drive it! Far too good to scrap and they are rare now.

Steering wheel adjuster knob

Yes my knob has split in half. My car mad grandson ( can't think where he gets it from)likes to sit in my cars and fiddle with everything. Unfortunately he has overtightened the clamping knob which secured the angle of the steering wheel and split it. The car is an early 1976 Ti. Has anyone got spare?

I have never fitted polly bushes to the front arms but I would not recommend fitting them to the rear. I remember when Suds had only been around for a few years and there were stories about the cars failing their first MOT on the rear bushes as they were so soft. But thats how they are meant to be t...

I have nothing to add as I agree 100% with all thats been said here and also plan to keep the cars I have for ever. But if someone put a gun to my head and forced me to buy a new car, it would be either an MX5 or Toyota 86GT.
