Re: BLS Alfa 33 race car

Yes Please!

as I am converting my Class F car (which I bought last year) from race to fast road and track - it would be really, really good to understand development potential for the 33.

Any details on all aspects of the car will be gratefully received. :D

Re: My first ever 33

Kev, could do with some suggestions please….. argh!!!! Bought a set of standard cams of John at Justsuds which seem all well and good. Have tried two of them in the passenger side head and when winding down the cap screw nuts the cam just jam. In fact they jam so solid I can not turn the cams by han...

Re: My first ever 33

That's not a bad thought. Recently I was trying to get nut off the end of the alternator. Tried for ages with normal tools, with not much to hold onto. Took it to the car tyre people and they put the air gun on it and it was straight off without having to even hold the pulley wheel. The speed and th...

Re: My first ever 33

Hmmm….. yes, that tool looks interesting! Strangely they don't appear to have one of those down at Halfords. Anyway, meanwhile whilst having my black metal backing plates shot blasted and powder coated it will give me time to source something. TBH hadn't thought about fully rotating the cams in the ...

Re: My first ever 33

That would be great. Can I ask when you put the cams in is there any special procedure with the oil seals? I am assuming you had new ones. The ones I have here seem to have a bit of a chalky substance on them, albeit very thin. Just wondering if you used any other adhesives or lubes other than engin...

Kev,

how do you wind up the nuts on the cam wheels to 76 - 84Nm without the cams turning over?

Re: My first ever 33

Kev,

Yep those head tightening figures are correct. As mine is 1800 with high comp pistons we set the torque wrench to approx 100nm and tightened in 3 (more like 6) even stages.

Re: Oil Filter thread size

That would be a really handy list. I am trying to avoid anything that doesn't have the correct non return valves. Supposidely Alex is getting a batch of genuine Fiat / Alfa ones before too long.

I get them hand delivered if that is the case

Yes, did think about going there, but have made it a bit of a mission not to do so.

Didn't think just to straight forward google it….

It's odd that it took you there via that route with that answer and detail etc…

Oil Filter thread size

Does anyone know the thread size that the oil filter screws onto. I seem to remember it is not an obvious one like M20 but some weird imperial size some like 11 and 5/17's

Answers on a postcard please…. :)

Seeing Alex tomorrow - have sent him a message and will see what he has available.

Kev, don't suppose you could rustle up 4 injectors perhaps. Could probably do with the complete fuel rail thinking about it….

Re: My first ever 33

Kev, that's helpful thanks, managed to find those in the bits I have here. Now missing the 2 x 6mm approx spacers that the throttle bodies sit on and all the injectors. I see you have 2 there, but I bet unlike me - you probably have 2 more somewhere else. Have you put the little rubbers that they si...

Re: My first ever 33

Can you check something for me…. do the throttle bodies bolt up onto studs in the head or do normal bolts hold them in place. There is the big single stud but what about the 4 holes on the perimeter of the TB's. I assume they are studs. Any idea if they are the same as exhaust studs. If you can you ...

Re: My first ever 33

Well Kev, you are just pretty much at the stage I am at with my engine build. And the rate you are going you will be finished well before me. I do have the heads bolted on now, with the valves and seals all in place, but I currently have all of the tappets in pieces on the desk here in front of me. ...

Anyone know where there may be some new NOS 16v cam shafts?

Part numbers are 60549581 and 60591896. Can anyone suggest were may be a good place to look for these. May well try Mangoletsi and others. Other than the obvious (ebay etc) anyone happen to have any of these sitting on a shelf? I know it is a long shot but you can only ask…. :D I think I know where ...

Yep, I used 89mm JE pistons that I ordered and came over from the States in the summer. I used a standard crank, that I had thoroughly line and crack tested. Work is slow progress due to availability of parts / time / and access to engineering etc. Hopefully making some decent progress before starti...

A genuine thank you…. calliper bolts sent in the post.

Not long ago, someone sent me some bolts (2) in the post for by big brake conversion for my 33 race car. I made a mental note who is was (from the other site) but for the life of me I can't remember who it was. If it was you that sent them to me - then firstly 'thanks' and secondly 'sorry' as althou...

Re: sprint race car

V4 engine - absolutely gorgeous!! I have always just really liked the idea of a V4 engine. There is just something inherently right about that configuration for me. Not sure if I would swap it for a flat 4 - but it must be nice only having one set of heads to deal with. In my mind one is on ...
